Language is culture. People think in language. Translation requires not only mastery of a foreign language, but also a deep comprehension of one′s own. A consummate translation accounts for cultural nuances of the source text, as well as grammatical and stylistic correctness in the target language. This guiding principle is the leitmotiv for every text that I work on. I have been translating professionally since my graduation from the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Translation provides me with a fascinating opportunity to explore German, a language that I have been studying for nearly a full decade, and it also gives me greater insight into and understanding about English, my native tongue. I live and work in Berlin, Germany, the greatest city in the world.
